Key responsibilities

We seek an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee our engineering maintenance,
fabrication, cutting, and welding workshop. The ideal candidate will have a strong
technical background, excellent leadership skills, and ability to interpret engineering
drawings for production purposes. Additionally, the manager should possess skills to
prospect for potential jobs and grow the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical:

  1. Manage workshop operations, ensuring efficient production, quality, and safety.
  2. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards for production.
  3. Supervise and train workshop staff (technicians, mechanics, welders, etc.).
  4. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  5. Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental regulations.

Leadership:

  1. Lead and motivate workshop team.
  2. Develop and implement training programs.
  3. Conduct performance evaluations.
  4. Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  5. Ensure effective communication within the team.

Business Development:

  1. Prospect for potential jobs and clients.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients.
  3. Identify business opportunities and propose solutions.
  4. Prepare and submit bids, proposals, and tenders.
  5. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to grow the business.

Administrative:

  1. Manage workshop administration, including personnel and inventory.
  2. Coordinate with procurement department for material purchases.
  3. Monitor and control workshop expenses.
  4. Prepare and submit reports to management.
  5. Ensure compliance with Ghanaian labor laws and regulations.

Safety and Quality:

  1. Ensure a safe working environment.
  2. Implement quality control measures.
  3. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  4. Develop and implement corrective actions.
  5. Maintain ISO 9001 and other relevant certifications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related

field.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication, welding, cutting, and machining processes.
  • Leadership and management experience.
  • Business development and sales skills.

Certifications and Training:

  • Certified Engineer (e.g., CEng, PE) or working towards certification.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Training in project management, quality management, or safety management.
  • Sales and marketing training.

Language and Computer Skills:

  • Fluent in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

Working Conditions:

  • Workshop environment with occasional outdoor work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
