Key responsibilities

Job Title: Resource Geologist
Location: Mumbwa, Zambia
Department: Geology/Technical Services
Reports to: Sr. Geologist

Job Purpose:
To manage and execute resource drilling programs aimed at resource conversion and replacement, ensuring high-quality geological data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. The Resource Geologist will support life- of-mine planning through accurate modeling and timely updates to resource estimates in line with operational and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resource Drilling and Conversion:
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise grade control and near-mine exploration drilling programs.
  • Oversee the conversion of Inferred and Indicated Resources to Measured categories.
  • Design and update drill hole layouts to optimize resource delineation.
  • Deliver validated geological datasets for resource modeling and estimation.
  • Geological Data Management:
  • Conduct detailed logging of RC chips and diamond core samples.
  • Interpret lithological, structural, and assay data to support modeling efforts.
  • Maintain data integrity through rigorous QAQC and data validation protocols.
  • Use software (Vulcan, Micromine, Leapfrog) for solid modeling and block model visualization.
  • QAQC and Audit Readiness:
  • Develop, review, and implement QAQC sampling protocols.
  • Lead and support audits such as RSC to ensure compliance in drilling, sampling, and data management practices.
  • Budgeting and Scheduling:
  • Prepare and manage budgets for drilling programs, ensuring cost control.
  • Update drilling schedules in alignment with LOM forecasts.
  • Monitor and optimize drilling productivity and cost-effectiveness.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Mentor and train junior geologists and field staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, data quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support team development through skill-building initiatives.
  • Statutory and Environmental Compliance:
  • Ensure all activities adhere to statutory regulations and company SHE (Safety, Health, Environment)

standards.

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders

Desired candidate profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Mineral Sciences (B.Min.Sc.).
  • Minimum 7-9 years of experience in gold mining and exploration, preferably in open-pit environments.
  • Strong experience in grade control, near-mine exploration, and resource modeling.
  • Demonstrated success in resource conversion and audit compliance.
  • Proficient in geological software: Vulcan, Micromine, Leapfrog, Surpac, ArcGIS.
  • Excellent planning, communication, and analytical skills.
