Oversee all mechanical systems, equipment, and maintenance for the charcoal manufacturing plant
to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production.
### Key Responsibilities

1. Plant Operations

• Manage kilns, dryers, briquetting machines, crushers, conveyors, boilers
• Ensure equipment runs at target capacity with minimal downtime
• Optimize processes for yield, energy use, and dust control

1. Maintenance & Reliability

• Plan preventive + predictive maintenance for all mechanical assets
• Lead breakdown troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Control spare parts inventory and maintenance budget

1. Safety & Compliance

• Enforce safety protocols for high-temp kilns, dust, and moving parts
• Ensure compliance with OSHA/TZ labor + environmental standards
• Conduct safety training for mechanical technicians

1. Team Leadership

• Supervise mechanics, fitters, welders, and technicians
• Set KPIs: MTBF, MTTR, maintenance cost/ton, uptime %
• Handle scheduling, performance reviews, skill development

1. Projects & Improvements

• Lead installation/commissioning of new equipment
• Drive cost-saving projects: reduce energy, improve throughput, cut waste
• Liaise with production, procurement, and suppliers

Qualifications

1. Education: Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Diploma + 5yrs exp also

considered

1. Experience: 5+ years managing mechanical maintenance in manufacturing.

Biomass/charcoal/wood processing exp is a plus

1. Skills:

• Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding
• Budgeting, CMMS tools like Fiix/ Up Keep, MS Excel
• Problem-solving under heat/dust/24-7 shift conditions
