Desired candidate profile
The IT Administrator operates and supports the organisation's IT infrastructure and services day to day — servers, virtualisation, networks, Microsoft 365, identity, endpoints and backups — under the direction of the Senior IT Administrator. Two IT Administrators share the workload and provide cover for each other. The role delivers second-line support, carries out routine administration, patching and backup checks, and escalates complex or high-risk issues to the Senior IT Administrator. The role keeps the runbooks and documentation for the systems it administers up to date and follows established change procedures.EssentialDiploma or degree in computing, information systems or a related field, or equivalent experience. ▪ 2–4 years in IT support or system administration, with hands-on responsibility for servers and networks, not only end-user support. ▪ Working experience with Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP and Microsoft 365 administration. ▪ Practical experience with virtualization (Hyper-V or VMware) and backup tools, including restores. ▪ Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, Wi-Fi, VPN and firewall basics. ▪ Understanding of security basics: patching, endpoint protection, MFA, least-privilege access. ▪ Experience working with a service desk tool and following incident, request and change processes. ▪ Writes clear, accurate documentation and follows runbooks and SOPs consistently. ▪ Good troubleshooting method and attention to detail; able to work to SLAs and priorities. Clear communication with users and colleagues; willing to escalate promptly rather than sit on an issue.DesirableCertifications such as CompTIA A+/Network+, CCNA, Microsoft AZ-104 or MS-102, or ITIL Foundation. ▪ Basic PowerShell scripting. ▪ Exposure to Azure or other cloud platforms. ▪ Familiarity with server hardware (RAID, iDRAC/iLO) and UPS/server-room equipment. ▪ Experience with Linux servers.
