With a fleet of over 500 vehicles ranging from passenger cars to light and heavy commercial vehicles, farming machines like tractors and combine harvesters, and 50 standby generators, we are committed to delivering our products efficiently and maintaining operational excellence.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Group Transport Manager to oversee the entire transportation function within our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability and reliability of our vehicle fleet, meeting operational cost targets, implementing theft prevention strategies, standardizing the fleet, and managing a competent workshop team. They will also be responsible for conducting daily inspections of commercial vehicles to ensure their safety and compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Management:
Manage and optimize the utilization of the company's fleet of vehicles, farming machines, and standby generators.
Standardize the fleet by reducing it to 6 standard models to streamline maintenance, spare parts management, and operational efficiency.
Build up a comprehensive set of spare parts for the standard fleet to ensure availability and minimize downtime.
Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely procurement and inventory management of spare parts.
Workshop Management:
Manage and lead a team of workshop foremen, mechanics, and auto electrical staff across 10 workshops.
Ensure the workshops are staffed with highly competent individuals and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
Implement effective people management strategies, including performance evaluations, coaching, and mentoring.
Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the workshop teams.
Operational Performance:
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) related to vehicle breakdowns, operational costs, and overall fleet performance.
Monitor and analyze data to identify trends, address issues proactively, and continuously improve operational performance.
Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize breakdowns and maximize vehicle uptime.
Collaborate with workshop teams to ensure efficient maintenance and repair processes, utilizing automotive diagnostic machines and best practices.
Theft Prevention:
Develop and implement theft prevention strategies to safeguard company assets.
Implement measures such as locking fuel tanks with heavy-duty lids, encasing fuel lines with tamper-proof coverings, and branding tires and batteries.
Collaborate with security personnel and relevant stakeholders to deter theft and promptly address any security breaches.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and industry standards.
Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of commercial vehicles to identify any safety concerns and ensure adherence to maintenance protocols.
Develop and enforce driver safety programs to minimize accidents, injuries, and property damage.
Promote a culture of safety and provide training to drivers and other transportation personnel
Desired candidate profile
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
Proven experience in fleet management and transportation operations, preferably in a similar industry.
Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, fuel management, and preventive maintenance programs.
Familiarity with transportation regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use data to drive decisions.
Strong leadership and people management skills to effectively manage workshop teams.
Experience with automotive diagnostic machines and workshop operations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficient in using fleet management software and other relevant tools.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Vehicle Availability Rate: Achieve a minimum of 95% availability of the entire vehicle fleet.
Breakdown Frequency: Maintain a breakdown rate of less than 1 breakdown per 20,000 kilometers.
Operational Cost: Meet or exceed targets for operational cost reduction while maintaining service levels.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and internal safety standards.
Theft Prevention: Implement effective theft prevention strategies and maintain a low incidence of theft-related incidents.
Safety Performance: Maintain a high safety record, minimizing accidents and injuries.
Workshop Efficiency: Improve workshop efficiency through effective management and standardization of processes.
