Position Summary:
The Engineering Process Draughtsman is responsible for the development of accurate and detailed engineering drawings and models for metallurgical processing plants and associated infrastructure. This includes the creation of GA (General Arrangement) drawings, fabrication drawings, and “As-Built” updates. The role supports the engineering and project teams across design, construction, commissioning, and operations stages.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Plant & Mechanical Drafting

• Prepare detailed GA drawings for crushing, grinding, screening, leaching, CIP, elution, thickening, and tailings circuits.
• Generate PFDs and P&IDs in collaboration with process engineers.

Structural & Mechanical Layouts

• Design and draft conveyor systems including stringers, support framing, take-up towers, pulleys, chutes, etc.
• Draft layouts for cable trays, pipe racks, support steel, and access structures.

Site Verification & As-Built Documentation

• Conduct site visits to verify existing installations.
• Produce 'As-Built' drawings based on actual site conditions.

General Engineering Draughting

• Create mechanical detail drawings for platework, piping layouts, and equipment supports.
• Prepare fabrication and erection drawings with BOMs.
• Maintain drawing and document control systems.

Requirements:
Qualifications:
National Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical / Process / Structural Draughting or equivalent.
Registration with EIZ or relevant professional body preferred.
Experience:
5+ years in an engineering draughting role within a mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial plant environment.
Proven ability to generate detailed process plant layouts and mechanical/structural drawings using modern CAD systems.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and optionally Inventor, Revit, or SolidWorks.
Experience with Navisworks, Point Cloud Integration, or similar tools is beneficial.
Familiarity with ISO and SANS standards for mechanical and structural detailing.
Other Competencies:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy.
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
Good communication skills for coordination with engineers and fabricators.
Willingness to conduct field measurements, sometimes in remote or challenging conditions.
