Position title: Chief Risk Officer
Job level: Executive
Reports to: CEO
The Chief Risk Officer reports to the CEO and will ensure that strong risk, compliance and governance
framework is embedded across the organization.
The Chief Risk Officer is also ensuring that right systems are in place to continuously assess and mitigate
principal risks of the Institution’s Risk and compliance mandate.
Key Responsibilities:

• Identify strategic and operational risks, ensure mitigation strategies are in place, and as

appropriate, take action to minimize any actual or potential impact.

• Ensure Regulatory compliance in all areas of the Institution
• Ensure that operational areas have an updated risk management framework and register in

place, linked to the Institution’s management strategies.

• Timely accurate reporting to the CEO, and timely regular reporting to all the required

Regulators.

• Ensure appropriate risk diversification and is fully responsible for the quality of credit and the

overall risk profile.

• Ensure strong risk follow ups are maintained in all the areas of Banking operations; specifically,

finance, credit, and information technology. Must ensure all areas of banking are well
contained in terms of risk exposures.

Qualification and Experience

• Master’s in accounting, economics or related field.
• 10 years combined experience in banking and finance, of which at least 5 years in risk

management related roles.

• Experience in microfinance operations and specialization in some areas such as credit,

operations, foreign exchange/investment.

• In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance requirements. Should be well versed with the

regulatory environment. Knowledge in global regulatory environment/practices is preferred.
