Position Summary
To guarantee operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth, the Chief
Operating Officer (COO) will oversee managing the laboratory's daily operations and carrying
out strategic initiatives. Building the organizational infrastructure, streamlining processes, and
promoting cross-functional integration to support research, diagnostics, and BA/BE program
execution are all crucial tasks for the COO, a vital member of the senior leadership team.
Strategic Leadership & Operations Management

• Lead the development and execution of operational strategies to support organizational

goals.

• Establish robust systems and SOPs across all operational units, including laboratory

management, quality assurance, project execution, and client services.

• Collaborate closely with the VP and senior leadership to shape long-term planning and

innovation roadmaps.
Laboratory Operations

• Oversee and ensure seamless operations of molecular biology, genomics, clinical

diagnostics, and BA/BE units.

• Ensure availability and optimal functioning of all laboratory equipment and technologies.
• Drive continuous improvement in turnaround time, cost-efficiency, and operational

scalability.
Regulatory & Quality Compliance

• Ensure compliance with national and international regulatory standards (e.g., MLSCN,

NAFDAC, FDA, EMA, GLP, GCP, CAP, ).

• Establish and maintain quality management systems and audit readiness.
• Lead internal and external audits and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Program Execution & Project Oversight

• Provide strategic oversight of research and BA/BE project pipelines, ensuring adherence

to timelines and budgets.

• Interface with sponsors, CROs, and academic collaborators to ensure successful project

execution and client satisfaction.

• Monitor key performance indicators and ensure high standards of service delivery.

Team Leadership & Culture

• Recruit, develop, and lead high-performing operational, business development and

technical teams.

• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovation-driven organizational culture.
• Implement workforce planning, training programs, and performance management

frameworks.
Financial Management

• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for all operational functions.
• Ensure efficient resource allocation and ROI across departments and initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or MSc) in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology,

Biotechnology, Pharmacology, or a related field; MBA is a plus.

• Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in laboratory operations,

clinical research, diagnostics, or pharmaceutical R&D, with at least 5 years in an
executive role.

• Proven experience in establishing or scaling up high-complexity laboratories, especially

in molecular/genomic diagnostics or BA/BE studies.

• Strong understanding of global regulatory frameworks, clinical trial protocols, and

laboratory accreditation requirements.

• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive operational efficiency in

fast-paced environments.

• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
