Mineralogist job duties
examine and analyze minerals for impurities. conduct field studies and surveys to determine the availability of minerals. determine the properties of a mineral and classify them based on their internal structure. conduct x-rays and microscopic examinations to understand the mineral composition.
Desired candidate profile
Degree: BSc with Chemistry and Geology as major subjects
Post-graduate training: for researchers, at least an honours degree in Geology (with specialisation in Mineralogy) is required. Only a few universities offer Mineralogy as a subject, e.g. US, RU. A masters degree in Mineralogy is recommended.
