Key responsibilities
Job Summary
The Building Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair
of building systems and facilities to ensure they are safe, efficient, and fully operational. The role
ensures that building infrastructure, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and other essential
systems are maintained in accordance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and
company policies while supporting the efficient operation of the property.
Key Responsibilities
Building Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems, including mechanical,
electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, fire protection, and other facility equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure building systems
operate efficiently.
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Respond promptly to building maintenance issues and operational emergencies.
Facility Management
- Monitor the overall condition of the building and recommend repairs, upgrades, and
improvement projects.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimize operational disruptions.
- Ensure the proper operation of utilities and building services.
- Assist in planning and implementing renovation, refurbishment, and improvement works.
Contractor & Project Coordination
- Supervise contractors, service providers, and maintenance personnel performing work within
the facility.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved specifications, quality standards,
and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with tenants, suppliers, consultants, and relevant authorities regarding maintenance
and engineering activities.
Compliance, Safety & Quality
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, environmental
regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure building systems meet regulatory and
operational standards.
- Maintain records of inspections, maintenance activities, certifications, and compliance documentation.
Budget & Asset Management
- Assist in preparing maintenance budgets and monitoring maintenance expenditures.
- Manage inventory of maintenance tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Recommend cost-effective maintenance strategies to improve operational efficiency and
extend asset life.
Other Duties
- Prepare maintenance reports, technical documentation, and operational records.
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel and support continuous improvement
initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Desired candidate profile
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a
related engineering discipline.
- Professional registration or licensure is an advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in building engineering, facilities management,
property maintenance, or building operations.
- Experience in commercial, residential, industrial, or mixed-use properties is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of building systems, facilities management, and preventive maintenance.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, and fire protection systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
is an advantage.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance will be measured based on:
- Operational reliability and availability of building systems.
- Timely completion of preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Compliance with safety, regulatory, and maintenance standards.
- Effective management of maintenance costs and resources.
- Quality and timeliness of maintenance reports and documentation.
- Tenant, client, or stakeholder satisfaction with facility operations.
